    Throughout The Kid, Schroeder taps into an endless well of homey, roots rock inspiration, from Wilco to Neil Young. By pairing a pitch-perfect ability to capture that energy with a vivid imagination, Schroeder reaches something that’s not quite present and not quite past, part nostalgia and part exploration of a new reality. “These songs just flowed easily,” he says. “I just let go and accepted the fact that this record would be a product of its circumstances. I wanted to capture the different parts of my mind, country and rock, stories from my life and from characters. I just need to record songs that are important to my life and share them with the world.”

Written when I was sixteen, this song is about a heroin addict who can’t find any heroin. I tried to convey the tortured feeling of not being able to attain what is essentially essential in a light, comedic, and jaunty manor.
