about

*All digital downloads for Rikki will be donated to National Bail Funds Network*

Rikki was inspired by all of Nick D’s friends breaking up. This specific song is in reference to them commenting about how they’re going to stay friends, but that is never really the case. Post-break up relationships don’t pan out the way that you plan or hope for. It's about three specific stages of splitting up: Not doing well right after splitting; fooling yourself that you two will stay friends; and how you feel once the dust clears. It was written to have a universal message, akin to the Elliot Smith song, I Better Be Quiet Now, because really everyone has done this exact thing and gone through something similar.
The title is taken from a quote from the Offspring’s classic “Pretty Fly for a White Guy.”

We recorded the songs at The Boise Rock School with Jared Goodpaster. It was mixed by Al Arrowsmith at Ectoplasmic. We tracked with no click and Nick A goofed off 85% of the time. The recording process was much faster than anticipated and the majority of the tracking for six songs was done in two days. We let them sit for a couple weeks, patched up a few goofs and sent them off for mixing.

lyrics

You were tight for asking for it, I know I shot it down
But I’m the one who asked you for a kiss right when you turned to spit yours out
Half-awake half the night, drudging up what we lost
You wanted chemistry, I’ll take anything
Sometimes I almost call you, but I know you’re not around
And there’s nothing to talk about except for shit that had us both pinned us to the ground
If your waiting for love to call, then you’ve already lost
You wanted chemistry to bring us back to love with some traction
but we can’t even talk without some Pavlovian reaction

And now I hear you’re ok, I’m better than I make it sound
Cuz we’re no longer sitting in a house covered in dust and fading out
Oh I think we tried, what more do you want?
You got chemistry
I found everything
