    Gold Star Gold Star is the home-recording project of duo Adam Miller and Adam Obermeier. Born out of a mutual partnership aimed to explore writing within traditional pop song structures of AM dial radio, Gold Star Gold Star found Miller and Obermeier expanding beyond their self-imposed prompt. Drawing resources from baroque to Motown, the duo performs with its own ramshackle logic of imperfect time, uncanny arrangements and a topsy-turvy mix of High and Low fidelity recording techniques. However ranging, their pop ethos still stands within every track. Their forthcoming debut album, “Introducing… Gold Star Gold Star”, has twelve original songs recorded in mono. Miller and Obermeier kindly invite you to experience the stardust with the lovely and curious sounds of Gold Star Gold Star!

The song is inspired a lot by The Everly Brothers, with the likes of simple pop structure aiming to have a simple vocal hook with the lyric being a simple and quick turn of phrase to pair with it. “If you only knew”. Treble-heavy AM radio hits of the early 60s were a drawing point and this song I find most exemplary on the album.

Vivian McCall produced it with GSGS on a mix of digital and tape. This was the second song recorded by us, and we were completing the whole process in one day back then, on a four track tape machine before moving to the 8 track. Recording the harmonies of the bridge of the song with all three of us was a highlight and a delight, now deep into the night trying to finish recording before noise became a nuisance to neighbors, in Adam M and Vivs then apartment. Coming up with the glockenspiel tidbit last minute in the middle vocal takes illustrates our creative and inspirational spirit of the record in us trying many “dumb” ideas that work out.
