    Throughout The Kid, Schroeder taps into an endless well of homey, roots rock inspiration, from Wilco to Neil Young. By pairing a pitch-perfect ability to capture that energy with a vivid imagination, Schroeder reaches something that’s not quite present and not quite past, part nostalgia and part exploration of a new reality. “These songs just flowed easily,” he says. “I just let go and accepted the fact that this record would be a product of its circumstances. I wanted to capture the different parts of my mind, country and rock, stories from my life and from characters. I just need to record songs that are important to my life and share them with the world.”

I wrote the chorus of this song in my head on the car ride home from playing my first show out of town. We drove for seven hours to Santa Cruz from San Diego and this song was inspired by the time spent inside and out of the car.
