about
Be my Sequencer was the first song written on the Sports EP. After being inspired by French
soundtracks from Serge Gainsbourg and Sebastien Tellier, and by library records of the 60’s
and 70’s, he wanted to create a similarly psychedelic pop fantasy with several chord
changes and playful melodies. For this track, he used an mpc 2000xl for drums, rhodes for
keys, glockenspiel, korg polysix/sh101 for synths, and Red 2 Six played the groovy bassline.
Being the synth nerd he is, the song is really meant to be a love song for his casio sk5 synth
and the challenges he has when he brings new synths into the studio. Hudson takes care of
these keyboards like they are alive - most of them are actually older than he is!
lyrics
Verse
I hold my synth at night,
before I fall asleep
It keeps me safe alright,
with it’s melody
It’s never out of tune,
when I hear it dream
It helps me when I’m blue,
And listens to me weep
Your little circuits,
with this energy
You make my hear all,
fuzzy with these memories
I ain’t leaving,
you alone I swear
You’re the friend I need,
be my sequencer
Chorus
La la la la (x 8)
Bridge
Somewhere out there you have a twin that gives some happiness
We may meet at our next gig be sure to give it a little kiss
I promise you, a brother
You can talk to, each other
Verse
But don’t feel threatened by,
my new romance
Our love ain’t dead,
just give me a chance
I just need some time
from your hollow waves
I’ve got another synth,
that is great for raves
This is just a phase,
you know you're still my guy
Once I track this bass,
you’ll get another try
Won’t you power on?
what have I done this time
Now my best friends gone
and never said goodbye
Chorus
La la la la (x 8)
Bridge
Somewhere out there you have a twin that gives some happiness
We may meet at our next gig be sure to give it a little kiss
I promise you, a brother
You can talk to, each other
Chorus
La la la la (x 8)

Love this record so much! Satisfies my early Boards of Canada needs, with a touch of Floyd and the Stranger Things OSTs thrown in. No to mention it’s own progressive elements. Can’t recommend highly enough! Jay Hodgson
